ABOUT

With an MA in fashion and textile history and a working background in the arts, I decided I wanted to retrain and turn my hand to something more creative but also practical. I undertook some upholstery classes at an adult learning centre in Walthamstow in 2016 and caught the upholstery bug!

The following year I enrolled on the AMUSF accredited diploma at The Cass, part of the London Metropolitan University, where I completed stages 1 & 2 of the diploma.

I moved to the Upholstery Skills Centre in 2019 where I completed the third and final stage of my training. I also completed the Advanced Modern Upholstery course at the Upholstery Skills Centre in the autumn of 2020.

I founded Hickory & Elm Upholstery in 2020 and have a workshop in Walthamstow, North East London.

Working with my hands and transforming furniture by using both traditional and modern upholstery skills and techniques is an immensely satisfying process.

A good piece of furniture, whether antique or modern, can last for generations as long as it’s cared for. Upholstery, particularly traditional upholstery methods and materials, can prolong the life of a piece of furniture by another 100 years!

Coupled with the craft side of upholstery and working with beautiful fabrics which I love, the idea of saving furniture from landfill and bringing it back to life spurs me on. I would love to work with you on giving your furniture a wonderful, new look so do get in touch!
